Technology plays an important role in our day-to-day lives; we humans depend too much on tech gadgets and services. Be it social media or robotics, development of technology helped mankind in several ways, Firstly, it helps to reduce human work and delegate some of our work to machines.Secondly, with automation, machines can even take decisions on there own, making our work much easier. There is an enormous scope of technology that is still hidden and waiting to be explored.
In the past, humans were the prime resource for companies, and they required a lot of manpower to do day-to-day operations, but if we consider today's situation, the majority of the work is now automated.Machines are extremely accurate and precise; they work continuously and effectively. It's rare for a machine to make mistakes unless the software that runs the machine is not properly configured. Due to these factors, adoption of machines in the workplace has spiked in the recent decade. It is actually a good thing because humans can use the time effectively while machines do the boring and repetitive tasks. Like every other technology, automation also poses several threats.
Firstly, what is automation? Automation means making machines do work or making machines capable of doing work, and take decisions. So you may think, How can a machine take a decision? Also, if a machine is capable of taking its own decisions, will it become a threat to mankind? Yes, that is what we are going to discuss in this session.
Lets see how Wikipedia defines it "Artificial intelligence is intelligence demonstrated by machines as opposed to the natural intelligence displayed by animals, including humans. "
Basically, it is the intelligence of machines; unlike humans, machines do not have any intelligence because they are not living beings. Then how can they think like us? The answer to this question is simple: "We will teach them". Yes, teach them!
Even though machines are just electronic devices, they can detect certain signals. For example, we know machines can understand binary 1 and 0. because it uses transistors to save the state. When it is on, it becomes 1; when it is off, it becomes 0. This is the basic concept of computer intelligence and how computers can communicate with humans. We have programming languages like Python, Java, etc., which can be used to tell computers to do a particular task.
For example, we can use Python to create a program that finds whether a number is prime or not. Even if the number is very large, computers can generate results at lightning speed. By doing this, we are teaching computers how to find prime numbers. This is a basic example of teaching computers. When we talk about AI, this example seems very simple, but the underlying concept is the same.We humans program it, and computers perform it.
Even though AI seems to be a new concept, it was coined back in 1956 by John McCarthy. So we can understand how old it is and how advanced it has become today.
There are different types of AI. Let's discuss each of them.
1.Purely Reactive : These machines do not have memory or data. they are created to perform a particular function. Best example of this is an AI that plays chess game, the machine observer the opponents move and perform the optimal move from set of possible movements so that it can win the game.
2. Limited Memory: These type of AI can look in to past and also add new data to it.but their memory is limited. They are used in self driving cars for certain feature like to decide when is the next turn or when to change lanes etc.
3. Theory of Mind: This is a future concept and not yet build, this defines an AI that can understand human emotions, feelings and engage with us socially.but its an advanced type that may come in future
4. Self-Aware: It is the final type of AI.In this machines can understand themself and how they are working and can understand others emotions and mental state. It a concept but we can expect in the near future.

AI works by analyzing and understanding data. It uses certain algorithms to perform optimal operations; for instance, there is an algorithm called round robin that is used by load balancers to balance the network traffic. Similarly, there are several algorithms that can be used to make decisions. These algorithms help machines make critical decisions.Apart from this machines are provided with huge amount of data to learn.like millions of images of dogs in different angles to learn how a dog looks like and using this data machine can later detect different types of dogs.It is one of the principle used by machine learning.
Machine Learning : Through this method, we can make machines recognize objects. It is done by providing large data set and using algorithms to analyze and understand about the object thoroughly and do pattern matching
Deep learning: It is a sub category of AI in which machines can mimic human brain using neural networks, it allows them to detect pattern, sounds, etc
So far, we have seen the power of AI and how it can help humans make their lives easier. This is where the real question begins: if AI can do things better than humans, will it replace humans? There were many debates happening all around the world about this topic, but at least in the present generation, we can safely say that AI will not replace humans, mainly because AI is still in its learning stage, and currently AI does not have emotions or feelings; it is just a machine that does what we instruct it to do, and they cannot think out of the box.For instance, AI cannot do or think outside the boundaries that we set. But the same can't be said about the future of AI; once AI matures and becomes capable of taking its own decisions, like what we see in many sci-fi movies, it can be a threat to some extent. But the possibility is still rare, and it's not going to happen in the near future.
